Hydrogen fuel cell powertrains enable zero-emission flight

HAPSS: Pioneering the Future of Zero-Emission Aviation

HAPSS is a groundbreaking project focused on retrofitting existing aircraft, such as the Dash 8-300, with hydrogen-powered fuel cells, driving the aviation industry towards a greener future. Our goal is to have the first hydrogen-powered aircraft flying by 2029.

PARTNERS

Our success depends on strong partnerships across various sectors. HAPSS collaborates with key players in supply chain management, engineering, academia, and regulatory bodies. Notable partners include De Havilland Aircraft of Canada. We also work closely with Rotterdam The Hague Airport, which serves as the strategic hydrogen hub for the project, alongside leading Dutch academic and research institutions such as TU Delft and Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR).

Technology: Driving the Future of Aviation

HAPSS is at the forefront of aviation innovation, focusing on retrofitting existing aircraft with hydrogen fuel cells to reduce carbon emissions. Our approach centers on the use of liquid hydrogen and cryogenic storage, which offer cleaner, more efficient alternatives to traditional combustion engines. By retrofitting, we provide a cost-effective solution that leverages existing infrastructure while paving the way for zero-emission aviation. With significant progress in powertrain and fuel cell technology, HAPSS has achieved key milestones, including architecture design reviews and mid-term evaluations, keeping us on track to develop fully certified hydrogen-powered aircraft by the start of the next decade.

Regulatory Authorities

In close cooperation with regulatory bodies like EASA, Transport Canada, and the Dutch ILT, HAPSS ensures that all innovations in hydrogen-powered propulsion systems meet stringent international safety, regulatory and environmental standards.
